The digital era has not only made it easier for people to cheat on their partners, but has also resulted in some people in relationships now being more suspicious of their partners and also being able to catch them red-handed.
The progress in technology means every move you make can be traced. Cell phones follow you everywhere and you leave a digital track that can be followed by anyone who has access to your cell phone.
However, this also means that people are now able to create a safe, secret world by downloading programmes on their phones that can hide calls and messages. Technology has made it easier of meet anyone for any purpose. With the press of a few buttons you can talk to anyone anywhere in the world. This can lead to the exchange of photos and videos, online flirtation and eventually an online affair. Therefore, to cheat on your partner is no longer limited to a physical or emotional relationship.
Online message services and social media have made it easy to contact someone. With Facebook it is possible to trace old school and university pals. You can also search for the person you were secretly in love with and it is easy to fall into the trap of flirting with the person online.
Because of this, people who cheat on their partners now have an unending number of platforms at their disposal that enable them to cheat on their partners even while remaining anonymous.
Technology has also made it easier to find out if your partner might be cheating on you. There are all kinds of applications that can be downloaded on to cell phones where in virtual time you can trace your partner’s movements and activities.
If you suspect your partner is cheating on you, you can check his or her cell phone to try and establish if this is actually the case. You could for example look out for calls to unfamiliar numbers at strange times, names and numbers you don’t recognise and incriminating messages and e-mails.
Cheating means different things to different people and the progress of technology has made the distinction between what is acceptable and what is not even more vague. Some people consider cheating to be just a physical deed while others are of the opinion that a partner also cheats on them when they have created an emotional bond with someone else.
A message may look like flirting to one partner, while appearing quite innocent to the other. People in a relationship should therefore make sure there are clear boundaries as to what is acceptable online and what is not.
