On the whole, Christmas with family is not boring. It could however still be fun to this year do things a bit differently, and play a few games together. These games can be enjoyed by children and adults.
Christmas tree game
Divide everyone into teams and provide each team with Christmas decorations. One person in each team stands like a Christmas tree and is decorated by his team mates. Give everyone five minutes to complete the task. When the time is up, everyone can vote about whose “tree” is the coolest.
Sugar cane game
For this game you will need chopsticks, a lot of sugar canes, and a container. Every player keeps his arms behind his back and the chopstick in his mouth. He must then try to pick up the cane with the stick and place it in the container. The person who collects the most canes is the winner. Everyone can keep the canes they could place in their container.
Christmas stocking bluff
Collect some Christmas stockings. In some of them you can put money. Make them small amounts between R5 and R20. In the others you put a funny action that has to be performed. Each person gets the opportunity to choose a stocking. Fun actions that can be placed in the stockings include filling your mouth with marshmallows and then singing Jingle Bells; or wearing a Christmas hat the whole day; or drinking a tall glass of ginger beer within 30 seconds.
Jingle Bells shake
Use empty tissue boxes for this game. Make holes in the side of the box so that you can thread a rope through them. Then tie the box on to the player’s lower back. Place 10 small bells in the box. Play a Christmas carol with a quick tempo while the player, without the use of his hands, has to try and shake the bells out of the box. Stop the music after a minute. The winner is the person who could shake out the most bells.
Ornament guessing game
Each person has to guess how many ornaments hang on the tree. Let every player write down his name and his guess on a piece of paper and give it to the hostess. She will go through the papers and announce the winner, who can then win something like an ornament or a tasty treat.
Carry the gifts
Wrap some boxes in gift wrap and add a number of gift bags filled with newspaper. Each person is given the opportunity to see how many gifts he can carry in one go. He must then be able to carry all these gifts to the other side of the room.
Blow up some balloons. Each person places a balloon on his tummy under his clothing. Everyone then tries to burst their balloon by pressing on it. The person who bursts his balloon last, must wear a Christmas hat the entire day.
These are only a few ideas. With a bit of creativity and imagination you can create the perfect games for you and your family. Have a fun-filled Christmas.
